The Practice has its own Planning Supervisory Department and is a corporate member of APS. The department is headed by Tim Percival, Director, BSc, BArch, MSc(Construction Management), RIBA, and managed by Will McGinley BSc (Hons) MaPS.

Powell Dobson Partnership has undertaken the role of Planning Supervisor on many projects since 1994. To ensure competence of service in this area the following training procedures have been set in place :-

• Project staff have been trained in Health and Safety Risk Management.
• Staff attendance on Planning Supervisor's training courses
• Certain members of staff are qualified in Safety and Engineering
• The Practice has Corporate Membership of the Association of Planning Supervisors

The Practice has Health and Safety experience in the following areas :-

• Planning and Design
• Preparation of a Health and Safety Plan
• Selection of designers and contractors
• Demolition, construction and refurbishment
• Preparation of Health and Safety files
• Risk Management
• Health and Safety Legislation Technical Facilities

Technical Facilities

As a member of the RIBA and the Association of Planning Supervisor's, the Partnership has access to a dedicated information service on matters relating to the work of the Planning Supervisor, including provision of best practice information.

The Practice also has its own comprehensive technical reference resources including scientific and technical papers, and PC's with direct access to the HSE database.

Regulation 13

To ensure compliance of this regulation the Practice has established frequent staff training sessions. Each project team carries out two stage risk assessments. Initial risks on the major design elements are dealt with by the designer/Project Architect in the first stage of the design. This enables the risks to be incorporated into the design. Detailed Risk Assessments are then produced continually within the next stages of the design.
